Good Idea on bike rides or would you say dangerous? I tend to listen to music but my better half thinks its a bad idea!?!

True ... but @worldie is new and possibly doesn't realise how often this comes up.

Ian is right though @worldie - this does come up quite a lot - so much so we've even created a whole forum section dedicated to it. Oh, and just in case you're thinking of starting a discussion about whether you wear a helmet or not ... we've got lot of those here too.

Personally I do listen to music whilst riding, but only on open earphones and only at a low level - I prefer to hear what's going on around me as I feel it can give you just as many safety clues and cues as the visuals.

Been listening to music by normal headphones on a bike since I was a kid. Very low volume. I can still hear and have had no issues at all.

I use headphones on boring commutes, but seldom on longer rides out or off touring.
