Hi all,

Sorry for the potentially stupid question, I have a Ridley Xbow cross bike and I use it for weekend / lunch time bridleway, dirt track fun rides. At the moment I end up returning to work after an hour in the country around my work place absolutely caked in mud, which obviously isn't great. I was thinking about fitting a pair of mudguards to the bike, however every Monday and Friday the bike gets thrown in the back of the car for the journey home (50 miles) which means popping the front wheel off, would this mean having to take the front mudguard off twice a week also? Should I use a down pipe guard instead? I'd like to be able to one day use the bike for commuting too, and obviously the mudguards would be essential for that.

Thanks in advance.

Don't need to take mudguard off with wheel. Just need to be careful laying the bike down

Raceblade xl maybe an option which are easy to get on and off

Ah thanks, I've actually just googled a few images of CX bikes with guards on and realised the guard doesn't fit to the hub the way I thought, it connects to a small eyelet just behind. I thought every time I took the wheel off the guard would be flapping about.
If taking the guard off is no longer an issue (me being thick) would I be better off with clip on mudguards, licke the raceblade XL http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sks-race-blade-xl-clip-on-mudguard-set/ or proper fitted mudguards like Tortec reflectors http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tortec-reflector-mudguards-prod15327/?
