Mudguards - nightmare.

I own an RT-58 bike which has the most ridiculous clearance under the brakes. I bought some crud roadracer mk2 yesterday and attempted a fit today, but couldn't stop rubbing due to clearance. (For sale £20 posted if anyone wants them)

So now I'm in the market for a new set. I've noticed these SKS race blades don't actually cover under the brake, so might be worth a punt? Really don't want to waste another £25 on something that doesn't fit though. Any advice? I don't want anything that rubs, rattles, looks ridiculous or offers a fit that could potentially damage my bike.

Thanks

Racebladelong 2 are due to be released soon. They give full coverage and will fit where Cruds won't. They are not the same as Raceblades they attach via the skewers and brakes.

Apologies but this has to be said, a bike with clearance.
My bike serves its purpose come rain or shine, it just needs the appropriate mudguards. The clearance is around 3.5mm.

The crud road racers could be manipulated to fit correctly, but I would involve a bit of faff which I didn't want. It wasn't flat against the tyre.

I have cruds on mine. They are flimsy but do a job, especially as I paid under £3 in a Halfords pricing cock up. They don't rub on 23mm tyres

I make ass savers out of plastic covers from A4 reports. You can download and print a template from t'net. They are only any good as a last resort though.

I think this will be my next choice. Wish I hadn't wasted £25 on them now!

Still for sale if anyone wants them!?

That's why I'd only ever get an LBS to fit mudguards, let them have the pain and try different ones

I have similarly rubbish clearance, and I use Raceblades with no problems. They supply you with stickers which protect your paintwork.

Portland design works are expensive but the fittings mean it should fit in really tight clearances, but i would be interested to see what the raceblade 2 offers.
