Hi

I am new to the forum and own a Carrera Parva Ltd Black Edition, which is a few years old now. The item was given to me by a friend and I am looking to use it for commuting rather than off road activity. I am looking to fit some full length mudguards (or as long as possible) to reduce splash back from rain or surface water. The bike has an 18” frame, with 650 x 48B (27.5 x 1.95) tyres. My first contact point was Halfords for advice, but they were decidedly unhelpful. I have also contacted Tredz, who advised that I purchase a set of SKS Bluemels Mudguard Set (28” x 60mm) which I did. Unfortunately, the full range rear mudguard could not fit flush, as it was obstructed at the intersection of the two chain stays by the front Derailer.

Has anyone any advice to impart, ideally having fitted the type of mudguards that I have outlined to a bike the same as, or similar to mine. I am happy to purchase and modify any mudguards to fit my bike, but clearly, it’s not practical to start cutting a new set without some sound or proven plan.

I attach a number of photos of my bike for informational purposes.

All suggestions welcome

These look really effective and I would love to get some for my bike. Do they have clearance at the intersection of the two chain stays by the front derailleur, as depicted in photo 9 in my posting and are they wide enough for the 1.95” tyres.
To me it looks like there's plenty of room on your pic. Not entirely sure what sort of clearance do you mean? If it's about the width, the Bontragers taper at that end as shown in this photo:

The ones we got fit 42mm well. Not sure about 48-50mm - that's quite a lot for a commuter. They make them in different sizes though.

It looks to me like you need a spacer at the chainstay bridge, along with a longer bolt, so that the mudguard is moved just close enough to the tyre to clear the front mech & cable pulley.
I tend to use presta valve locknuts for such spacer duties.

It's also possible to reshape the mudguard a little with a hot air gun
