I currently have a pair of Zefal Trail Hybrid mudguards fitted to my Carrera Subway. They are pretty good and stop a lot of spray, however I find that I still get a fair bit of dirt on my jerseys, in particular below the small of my back. I suspect this is because they aren't long enough on the rear.

I am now commuting most of the time to work so would like a better solution. So, if anyone has suggestions for a set of mudguards that will fit 26 x 1.75 wheels with Zee Brakes, then I'd like to hear.

i just got some for my carrera subway, cheap ones from halfords, they said theyd fit 26/27inch wheels.

i fitted them to my 26" nd they looked stupid, had to cut down the spokey things that hold them on, dont look too bad now. i had mtb styles ones before but ive put a pannier rack on since so they didnt work then.
cheap very big and do the job, nothing better than that but for 16quid im quite happy

Could you not just diy a mudflap?
I have done one on the front guard and will soon make an improved version and a rear one too.

I was contemplating a botch, but if you look at the mudguards I have you will see that I probably need a fair size botch?

How have you botched that? Glue?

Made a small hole in the guard and used a very small nut and bolt with a washer or two.
Mark 2 will have 2 bolts and is now tucked inside the guard (looks neater) it will also be in black plastic.

Finally got round to making a rear flap today (thanks to the Manchester weather)
Looks much better in black, have also fine tuned the design and it is now much neater.
Two bolts to make it more secure too.

Front one in process

Well, I confess-I got some wiggle vouchers for my birthday so I decided to get a pair of the SKS commuter MTB mudguards.

No botch job needed (just as well probably). Thanks for the help anyway people, and especially Potsy for going out of his way and making a set of mudflaps for my benefit.

Hi,
Am new to this forum and have just got myself the same bike. Also got the halfords black plastic mudguards that provide maximum coverage of the tyres. How did you manage to cut the stainless steel stays to length?

Thanks for that.. I'll make to a trip to B&Q tomorrow.. The muffs at Halfords have bent them slightly to accommodate the disk brake mechanism but haven't cut them yet, so the mudguard looks a bit like a rooster tail, if you know what I mean.. I just don't get how they can be so mediocre with their work.. Thanks anyway for the tip..
