Mudguard sizes

I currently have SKS p65 mudguards on my Ridgeback Cyclone which runs with Marathon Plus tyres (26 x 1.75).

I keep having problems with mudguards, i.e. they keep breaking, and I think part of the problem is that because the guards are so wide I need to cut slots in them so the v-brakes can work.

When I look at the recommendations for mudguard sizings it suggests that 26x1.6 tyres upwards should use the p65 guard. However, does anyone know if I could get away with the p55 guard (I'd still need a slot but not as much) with my 26 x 1.75 tyres?

Dunno about the sizes, but could you try reinforcing them where you cut the slot, e.g. with a couple of strips of metal?

Aye, that is something I think I will do, but I still would like to use the smaller guards.

Any ideas?

It's 10mm narrower - do your current guards overlap the tyre by more than 5mm on each side? If so, you'll be fine with the 55's

If it is as simple as that, then I would say, yes they will fit. I know the profiles are slightly different though for the p55 and p65 mudguards.

Despite what that despicable goo_mason chappie says, I think I'll go for the p55 and make them fit!
