Hello

I bought a Carrera Subway from Halfords on Thursday. They fitted mudguards etc and I took it home. I went on a 5 mile ride last night, no trouble.

I went out this morning and I noticed mid ride that the front mudguard was scraping against the wheel. The component that fits in the frame had slipped down out of the tube which led to the mudguard it was connected to also falling! Whatever was holding it in place had come off (I assume it was a screw) . I stopped, removed the mudguard from the hanging fixer to pushed the bike 3 miles home as the component in question was now rubbing on the wheel and gave it a lot of resistance on bends!

Anyway, I need to get the mudguard back on. I don't have a clue how it was fitted. All I know is that there is an "on/off" lever on the plastic component that fits inside the frame. I need to know how to secure that plastic part so it doesn't slip down again

I got Bikehut Mudguards. The wallys at Halfords didn't give me the box and instructions when I collected the bike, so I have no reference point!

I'll post a photo or 2 if it helps. It's hard to explain!

But i'd definitely take it back, there may be a bit missing that's dropped off!

I've just got it back on with a screw. I also checked the rest of the bike to ensure that everything is secure.

I fitted one of this type of mudguard to my GF's bike, bought from Halfords. I found it a lot less than secure. It came loose so easily and wouldn't stay central which, for a first time rider, she found disconcerting as it wasn't pointing the way she was steering. She made me take it off in the end. The rear mudguard clipped onto the seatpost and was always getting knocked and rubbing on the wheel.
I've always preferred mudguards with stays connected to the drop-outs with adjusters on the 'guards. Though I've got some of these on my road bike.
