They are not very stiff which is one of the things that a bike specific shoe should aim for. All that said as a starter they are cheap so you aren't risking a huge amount financially if you don't like clipless.

You have hit the nail on the head. I was already into SPD -SL on the best bike, but wasn't sure about SPD . These proved I prefer them over -SL.

I've done roughly a 1,000 miles in mine. I only got them to try out 'clipless' and the Velcro is just starting to be Unsticky now, so after the winter ruins these ones, I will splash out on a new pair.

Really ok tha isis

I've got a pair of these, the race ones with a plastic bottom and can take either spd or spd-sl, prior to that I had an Aldi special MTV and found that the muddyfox are considerably stiffer for the same money. Only annoyance is the Velcro which catches on the drive chain but putting them in some sealskins sorted that. All in all, a good pair of starter shoes and about average sizing so need to go up or down one size.

I bought a pair of the touring shoes which lasted about 3 months before trying to unclip on a ride and the cleat stayed on the pedal while the rest of the shoe came off. I've now been using a pair of shimano shoes for the last few months without any hint of an issue. Proof that the old adage 'buy cheap, buy twice'.

If you're lucky you can pick up some decent shimano shoes from fleabay for about £30. Buy cheap buy twice!
