Hi,

The wife has a Hybrid Specialized Vita with Schwalbe Land Cruiser 700x35 tyres but we are now looking to purchase a front and rear mudguard set for the bike but I keep looking at so many options and also not sure what size mudguards to go for

You might like to edit the OP to '700x35' because '600' may confuse some.

Am I right saying if we have 700x35mm tyres then we should be looking for a mudguard that is 45mm not 35mm??

Nope, the mudguards I have linked for you are all to fit 700x35 wheels and tyres, unless I have read the ad wrong ....the stronglight states 700x35 to fit up to 25mm tyres???
Edit; message the seller to confirm if you are at all unsure.

Yep, they're the experts.:okay:

SMS Chromoplastics have a safety quick release fitting which works and will save you from a sudden stop if anything jams the mudguard.

Any good local bike shop should have mid width hybrid chromaplastic mudguards with fittings, including safety release clips on the front for about £20. Buying in the shop means you can hold them up and check for size and so on.

Stayless short plastic clip on guards are more like £8 but are fiddlier to fit, cover less and wander into the tyre occasionally.

Hi all,

In the end we went for a set of sks bluemels which also are a full mudguard set which includes the safety quick release system. Took a while to fit and to tweek but got there in the end, Front one mounted about an inch away from tyre and rear is a little bit tighter due to how the bike frame is near the bottom. But the rear is a few cm away as well but not as far as the front. all seems ok and no catching and they seem solid

if they tyres are 35mm wide, you need a minimum of 10mm clearance, so a 45mm wide mudguard is needed. But rather get a 50mm or 60mm wide mudguard which will give you even more clearance.

On my Surly LHT, I opted for Velo Orange full length stainless steel mudguards, and got the 60mm wide ones, as I may use 2 inch wide tyres in time to come. I also had them mounted fairly high up so I have extra clearance. There was not much price difference between the stainless steel vs plastic mudguards
