Hello,
Sorry to raise such a mundane subject, but I would appreciate some advice.
I have just bought a Specialized Sirrus and would like to add some protection from spray/mud.
However, I don't want a full mudguard set as I would like to be able to remove them easily in good weather (hollow laugh).
Most of the ones advertised appear to for M/B.
Are these ok or are there more suitable alternatives?
Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with running a hybrid with mudguards. MTB ones like crud catchers will fit and look as good as these things can, but they have a rather dispiriting way of dropping all the road water onto your feet.
Better to have something proper, and take it off if you want to in the summer. It's only 4 bolts. Will save a lot of time in cleaning.

I use an old plastic milk bottle (2 litre size) cut to size as a mudflap, perfect.

The problem with stiff plastic mudflaps is that they catch the wind rather than bend. Ride behind someone with an inflexible mudflap and see how it makes the mudguard wobble back and forth like a spastic pedulum in the wind. (Unless they're metal mudguards)

The best material is a flexible vinyl, which lifts slightly with forward momentum. Voila! no mudguard wobble.

Incedentally, "race blades" wobble like mad all by themselves, without a flap.

A mudflap that is wobbling isn't protecting you like a stiff mudflap would. But I only have a mudflap on the front wheel, I don't ride in groups.

Vinyl doesn't wobble; it just curves slighly backwards. Stiff plastic, like that in pop bottles, as I said, acts like a tight sail and makes the whole mudguard wobble.

Now if you want a front mudflap with the characteristics of vinyl and the style of classic British commuter bikes, go leather.

The plastic I'm using is from a milk container, reaches about 1.5 inches off the ground and nothing wobbles.
