Hello all,
Recently started commuting into work on my MTB so got a few questions..
I dragged my few-years unused MTB out the garage and took it for a ride. Talk about noodle legs after, but the adrenaline rush was great !
Anyway.. I've done a few mods, and would like to hear what you think about them, and got some questions..
#1 - I changed the knobbly tyres to kevlar road tyres - Much smoother ride, and I'm sure I'm cycling faster as well, though that may just be placebo..
#2 - Dropped the handlebars (turned them upside down so that they tilt forwards rather than towards, and added two bull horns mounted upside down to give me DIY drop bars - I actually find this set up very comfortable, more streamlined, and I get less buffeting from the wind (thanks UK weather..) The other bonus I found was that I swear I can get more power out of my legs this way, again may just be placebo !
#3 Adjusted the seat properly for height.. no more sore knees !
The roads on the way in are a bit of a pot-holers wet dream.. there is no chance a road bike would last on these roads, unless you had a deep wallet and carried a few spare rims with you..
I stand by "if it aint broke, don't fix it" and also I love a bit of DIY.. The mesage of that being, I'm not getting rid of suspension as I'd break anything else, or the road would ! How much power do you really loose through rear suspension ?
Tempted to get clip-less pedals as well...
Is there a way to get some sort of race/road bike spec gearing and drop them onto the current set-up ? The gears aren't exactly useful in the top end. I'm Running a 3 gear chain-set, and a 7 wheel spinner at the back. I find the difference between (Front/Back) 3/6 and 3/7 to be really large.. any way to overcome this ?
