Hello all,

I have recently changed my MTB's chain, rear cassette ,front chain wheels, crank arms and bottom bracket but now have a minor gear change problem. The bottom bracket is a little wider than originally fitted but this was needed to compensate for the slightly different front chain set and cranks. The gears worked pretty much from the word go with just a little adjustment on the cable adjuster to allow it to change to the larger chainwheel without extra force on the shift lever (indexed gears) The problem I now have with the front changer is as it goes down the gears it will not reliably change to the centre chain wheel but then jumps to the smallest on the next click. It goes up the gears fine and I have tried adjusting the cable adjuster so it just about changes into top gear but this didn't help, some times it changes some times not.

Any ideas anyone ?

Thanks

Brad

I would suggest you start from scratch with the front mech. Undo the clamp band, line it up perfectly with the large chainring and start again. Just to be absolutely sure I'd eliminated everything else I'd also change the cable. That way you are starting afresh with a mech aligned with your new chainring and not just forced over using the limit screws.

Just sorting the cable tension might do it, but smooth running cables will remove half the frustrations.
