mtb for £700

could anyone offer me any option of a good hardtail mtb for £700.
main contender is boardman comp at the moment.

its for a friend who is going to have one through ctw scheme.

dont know much about hardtail MTB's but i assume that the boardman ones match up to thier roadbike namesakes, in which case they will be good bikes excellent value and well specced.

Kona Kula. I have an 08/09 one. Miles better than all the above. Wiggle were selling them (blue and white) for £580 down from £875 in their sale. Mixture of XT and Deore components with Hayes brakes and Sun Rhyno rims. Read the many many reviews on Wiggle - all 5 stars.

Theres no end of good bikes at that price, I should know i've had a few!

Scott, Giant, Kona, Focus, trek.

I have a Scott MTB (carbon) at the moment which is oustanding, but my last bike was a Kona Caldera (around 700) and that was a great bike too.
Best thing is to shop around on line, if you buy a 2009 bike you could easily get more for your money.

I've no mtb experience but my brother is a mountain bike nut and he would recommend kona or specialized. Kona are about to release some UK specific bikes and i think one is in your price range too.

Giant sell the Talon, I think it is, on the basis that "this bike was designed specifically for UK trail centres." Make of that what you will!
