Do you use one?

I use my phone (Sony Walkman) but never use it while on the road, I only use it when I arrive at where I want to go (Single track's/Downhill sections/Wooded Areas)

I sometimes point out to other cyclists that it's not advised to use Mp3's while on the road, but they don't ever listen

Always listen to music when cycling.

Never has been a distraction as suck, but i am constantly looking out and over my shoulder for cars etc.

Nope, for the simple reason that I like to hear my surroundings. Traffic, pedestrains, so I can talk to other cyclists etc

Using MP3's on the road is quite a good idea, no point using a lossless codec as the wind and traffic noice will negate the improved sound quality and use more battery power.

I have just started to take out my ipod with me. Put an earphone in my left ear and i can still hear everything. Only do it when i'm out on my own, not for club rides. Can reach it to change track, turn it up or down.
Just made a case for it out of minicell foam. Might cut the bottom down abit, its a tad thick but wil will protect it from any knocks and keep it snug in my pocket. Also, if i need to concentrate, my mind doesnt listen to the music, i can be remembering the music, then afer doing a busy RAB not remember that the track has changed, or where the rest of the track before went.
I hope that you dont take your hand off your handle bars and point, that is not advised either. Nor is travelling fast, or going down main roads or going around round abouts. Not advised to do it, but you yourself probably do all of that.

I use a small MP3 player but don't have the volume up so high I can't hear what's going on around me - mainly used for those 'tedious' stretches.

I tend to look behind much much more with headphones on, and in general use my eyes to look out for any danger instead of relying on my ears to listen for it (which let's face it, are far from ideal for the job).

I feel much calmer with music on too. No point in worrying and getting stressed about stuff happening behind you when the chances of taking any meaningful action is pretty slim. If I'm going to get hit from behind I'd rather not know about it.

You mean cause they are using theri mp3's

I use mine on the road - dont have any probs yet...

Had a crash on the chainy about 2months back and those responsible reckoned I didnt hear a shout prior to the group moving out yet there was nothing to move out for so it was simply them covering their ass for nothing really and I told them: bastards = cost me 200 quid that and no apology.

Chris tobequitehonest i couldnt give shoot if any road user finds what i do irritating, i've took so much shite from cardrivers pollution & vitiriol, as long as i dont put their lives at risk, which they do mine; they can 'go' clean off.

I use the radio and mp3/music player on the mobile and answer calls but mainly pull over for them.

That is very true and I do agree with you there. :becool:

No, I don't use one whilst cycling and I never will.

The cyclists who I overtake on the bike path using them, who leap out of their skins when I come past because they haven't heard my friendly "GOOD MORNING!" has persuaded me to not use my trusty minidisc player on the bike.

Not that much overtakes me, obviously......*coughs and looks at the floor*

I use my ipod every time I go out. But don't have it turned too loud. I can still hear the traffic, but just my eyes instead of my ears. If I have change the album on the ipod I'll always pull over. It's basically a case of using your common sense.
