decided to try out my new (to me) giant boulder today so rode into work then decided to hit the clay trails over lunch

the previous owner had fitted road tyres to it (26x1.95 slicks) and got rid of the knobblies! managed about 3 1/2 miles on the grit/sand/quartz stuff and got a bit muddy! had to walk up some gravelly slopes as the rear wouldnt grip at all but i loved it! next up will be some 26" rims kitted out with knobblies that i can leave in work incase(when) i want to do it again! feels much better than the roadie for a blast at lunch but then im not worried about top/average speed!

next up will be replacing the forks as well as they are a bit dire TBH.

A while back I was thinking of getting a better MTB to replace my ancient 123kg Raleigh, I can't believe the Giant boulder goes for so little on Ebay!

How heavy is your boulder?

no idea, heavier than my roadie but not overly heavy!! it is the XL one though so heavier than others. looks a good frame all though i was primarily going to use it to cart mini kiwi around on a kiddie seat, will have to get a trailer now though due to the cable runs!!!

off road use and dodgy weather commuting only!!

I dropped the car off for a service this morning and cycled home, turning a 4 mile journey with 1000ft of climbing, into a two and a half hour bridleway mini-epic. Climbed that 1000ft at least twice if not three times and convinced myself the new bike is now set up right for climbing.
