More adding friends

what haven't I pressed?

Someone has invited me to be a friend, i have clicked to accept, and tho i appear in their friend list, they're not in mine.

Friends requests don't automatically reciprocate like they do in other social media; you can accept someone as a friend but you are not made their friend as a result. If you want to be their friend you have to similarly request to become their friend and they have to accept.

Also, depending on your settings, you may need to approve friends requests.

You can do this in your user settings (Signed in as ....) > Manage Friends > Friends Pending Approval (tab) ... then click the approve button for each pending friend.

It's not as easy as you might expect, but I understand they're updating the layout to make this more intuitive in the next version.

In addition, you can change your notification settings to inform you about friends requests and pending request.

Go to your user settings: Signed in as your username > My Settings > Notification Options > (Scroll down to) Profiles & Friends

Alter them to suit.
