HI All,
I have a slightly aging Samsung S20 phone that does everything I want except the battery is dropping off and won't really go a day so I charge morning and evening. The S20 is the last that takes an MicroSD card that I use a lot for photos. Base storage is 128GB and I have a 512GB card in it. Newer models are stuck with what you buy with no additional storage.
I usually buy 2nd hand/refurbished models from Backmarket or MusicMagpie and have a Sim only contract for £6/month. My main criteria is a very good camera and big storage.
Looking at getting a new battery for this current one. I can either get "Newman" from the local PhoneShop to bung in a generic battery for £50 or buy a decent spec battery online and fit it myself.
Any experience with either of the two scenarios? Looks like the back is glued on and needs gentle heat to soften the seal before prying off.

I have replaced batteries, on both a tablet and a smartphone but it's not easy. It requires patience and appropriate tools, and the risk of messing it up (cracking the screen) is there. That said, some devices are easier than others and I'd suggest seeing if you can find a YT video of the process for your device. There will be one, I feel sure. Watch it over a few times to see if you feel confident. If not, let the shop fit the generic battery. In fairness, it will be better than the old one.

It's defo worth doing though, if only for the satisfaction of the DIY and saving a device that suits you. It's really a matter of how capable and confident you feel. And how prepared you are to accept making a hash of it.

I've an old phone, a OnePlusX, that I like too much to replace the battery on. I'd probably cry if I cracked the screen.
