Hello all
I decided to give my brilliant Rudge Bi-frame (folding ATB) a stripdown and rebuild. Took the rather crappy steel cantis off to replace with some V brakes and STI shifters in my spares tin.
The studs are really badly misaligned!
I don't recall any accidents and there's no paint damage that is discernible. I think I haven't noticed as the brakes worked OK. I have done a few thousand miles on them without issue.
What to do? I realise I could build it back up with the original cantis. I am reluctant to try to get new ones brazed on as I don't know how to strip the paint around the concentric seat tubes. The bike is a bit of a ten-footer and I don't want to pay somewhere to do it.
Just stick the old cantis back on? Hub gear with a drum brake? Or even an old school BMX type caliper?
What would you do?
