Misaligned canti studs

Hello all

I decided to give my brilliant Rudge Bi-frame (folding ATB) a stripdown and rebuild. Took the rather crappy steel cantis off to replace with some V brakes and STI shifters in my spares tin.

The studs are really badly misaligned!

I don't recall any accidents and there's no paint damage that is discernible. I think I haven't noticed as the brakes worked OK. I have done a few thousand miles on them without issue.

What to do? I realise I could build it back up with the original cantis. I am reluctant to try to get new ones brazed on as I don't know how to strip the paint around the concentric seat tubes. The bike is a bit of a ten-footer and I don't want to pay somewhere to do it.

Just stick the old cantis back on? Hub gear with a drum brake? Or even an old school BMX type caliper?

What would you do?

Started young, and still going.

Barnet,
If the brake worked ok before, try putting the V brakes on and see if they line up. I know it's a bit trial and error, but you never know.

I assume you realise canti and V brakes require different levers as they have different pull ratio's.

Unfortunately, I ignore posts by T4Tomo - he gets too insulting for me to interact with, so I let him "win" by not replying. But I assume it was something obvious about v brake levers pulling different amounts of cable.

I did have different brake levers in mind but it's a moot point. I fitted an old set of STX-RC cantis I was saving for a new tourer and they have sufficient adjustment to both hit the rims. I am going to set them up and not worry.

^_^News to me but apologies if I've upset you, I think I'm more likely to be helpful or amusing than insulting, but anyway I'm pleased you've found a solution.

EDIT >> I've just checked back using search function to satisfy my own curiosity. I think we've only interacted on 2 threads. On one thread someone else pulled @chris667 up for insulting me, although I hadn't taken offence, and on the other thread he accused me of being weird^_^, but I can't see anything that remotely constitutes an insult by me aimed at him!! Ho hum.
