Hello,

I want to replace by 700 x 32 tyres to a more 'racing' tyre. I dont want to buy new wheels yet so what is the minimum size. I have seen some 700 x 25 that I want to buy, but I just wanted to check that they will fit my wheels.

Also, what is the minimum size I could use?

Thanks
Philip

That would depend on your wheels. You'll have to specify what their dimensions are.

The wheels say 622 x 17,

Is 700 x 25 or 700 x 26 tyres ok then? Or could I get even 'thiner' tyres, 700 by 23?

thanks
Phil

700x23 would be ok I guess. Get some cheap 700x23 and try them out

I have 700x25 on my fast bikes and 700x28 on the slower one

622 x 17? Does that mean the brake tracks are 20mm wide?

23 - 622 will bulge out beyond the brake tracks. No problems fitting these.

I mentioned on another thread my Mavic MAs from the seventies. They were 17mm inside the clincher and I mounted Michelin 20 - 622 tyres.
The bike now has MA2s with 19mm between the clincher. They have Hutchinson 22mm Kevlar tyres and the brake tracks are slightly beyond the tyre walls.

The wheels slip out and in without me needing to unhitch the brake straddle cable.
