So it's a crit sponsored by a dairy?

I'm looking forward to this.

Nottingham tends to be fairly busy with shoppers on a Sunday afternoon, especially if the weather's nice (which is forecast) so a fair number of spectators are virtually guaranteed. I suspect it'll also attract a fair few people along specifically to watch the race, so it should be a good atmosphere and afternoon out:smile:

You've just taken me back 30 years!!!! On a weekend break in Derbyshire in 82 or 83, we were out for a Sunday drive and noticed large groups of people assembled on street corners. Pope John Paul was doing his UK tour that summer, and or some reason, the 'grown ups' decided the crowds must be waiting for the popemobile to pass. So we stopped and waited, and waited, and waited (none of us are Catholic) and waited and waited and finally.... the last rider in the milk race went past.... what i learnt from that is never listen to grown ups.

Well, it definitely hasn't soured!

Dani King made it look easy. Felix English and a Raleigh rider (sorry, didn't get his name) rode away from the peleton about 20 minutes into the race. The Raleigh rider cracked when Felix pushed on the last lap and he finished with the peleton, but a lap in front of them.

A cracking day out, in fantastic weather, enjoyed by a pretty big crowd. The women's race probably had bigger crowds, as it was held when there were lots of shoppers around. The men started at 5.45pm, a time in-between the shoppers going home and the revelers coming out, so a crowd of several thousand was respectable I think.

Looks very good from the photos, the big thing is that it's great entainment as well as good racing.
And just a little point Simon, it's peloton, not peleton. Just remember it has 2 wheels (o) like a bike. Glad you enjoyed the races.

... now you're milking this for all that it is worth.

Carry on like that and people will quickly become cheesed off

Good to hear the event pulled in a big crowd and offers another race to the British teams. Hopefully the organisers will feel their efforts have been worthwhile. It will be interesting to see where they try to take it. At the moment it’s a crit that pulls in an ok field, but there are already about 20 crits that the Conti teams support (too many relative to road races!), and this isn’t in the top 15 in terms of the strength of field. It could stay as it is, or upgrade to Tour Series/Elite Circuit Race Series level, but that still restricts it to Conti level riders. An end of season big money crit targeted at World Tour and Pro Conti riders would certainly add something new to the calendar. Alternatively it could go down the road route, but 1.2 or 2.2 would limit it to Conti teams, so around Premier Calendar level. If spectators want to see the top GB riders, and they have very few opportunities currently, it would need to be 1.1 or 2.1 to pull in the Sky, BMC, Movistar, Garmin and NetApp –Endura guys.

Decisions decisions!

Now you are talking big money and UCI regs.
A race can't "upgrade" to Tour Series, that series is owned by a company who run the lot. Elite series might be a possibility, lots of requirements for that but, possible.
The reason that there are lots of crits is the challenge in running high end domestic road races, think £15-20k for a one day race.
Mind, if you know where the "big money" is, then there are a few top class organisers who would be interested, I'm sure.
A UCI 1.2 is a big step up in standard from any Premier Race, even more for a 1.1. Lots of cash required as well.

Yes, fully aware of those issues and would not disagree. Did not want to qualify every point and create a lengthy post. Just interested to see what will happen with this event, given the hype surrounding the Milk race link (currently just 4 letters!).
