You can sign in on the day apparently.

I have just been to register and check the road signs as the start is 3 miles from my house.

I am number 388

The wind was abiatch, it rained as well !!

i did the 73 miler.

Official time 4 hours 33 mins with stops , computer shows 4 hours 12 minutes.

Bottom bracket is screwed and have a lot of play in it , chain dropped 3 times and i could not get some gears as the play was shifting the front ring around to much.I think the rear mech is not very happy either as there is a bit of play in it.
The bike has been used for 2 years so i think the bottom bracket was due to go but it was fine at the start , got into some groups and was going along very nicely then just before the 1st food stop i started having problems as i noticed the mech was rubbing on the spokes when i wanted 1st gears ( was fine at the start).I could have done with it as well as i had to try and get up some hills with a 34x23 and there was some nasty grinds.

Second so called food stop i could not see any food on offer or drink as i had to carry on ,luckily i had grabbed enough + what i took with me .

Took 2 wrong turns, thankfully only went about 50 yards each time as they always had a second sign after a turn .

Was a car for mechanicals + a motorbike that tracked groups so very happy with the support .

Planning next years already

WTG - sounds like a good ride, even with the mechanical issues xx

Ok i will bite at your sig MABIL .. middle aged bird in lycra ?

Yup BB is screwed but i can only get 1 side out , off to LBS i guess and the rear mech does not look happy either, luckily i have a spare in stock for the mech.

That has worried me about doing one of these, relying on someone else for food supplies as I have been known to be a bit grouchy when hungry under normal circumstances, never mind with ammount of miles riding in front of me!

If the bottom braket is a square taper I have one going spare if you would like it.

Took some cash so i could always go to a shop in need be, a mars bar is better than nowt ..the best energy thing i had was a tube of glucose tablets that give 500 kcals for 3 tablets , they certainly give you a boost and you could easily carry them in your pocket as a back up.

Got it out in the end its a no name brand with no markings on it , 110 mm as far as i can tell.

Well done! That sounds like a good time, especially given the amount of problems you had with your bike.

Was there a lot of climbing?

Yes there was a fair bit of climbing , some people had to walk up 1 bit , including me as i could not use my bottom gear.

The 1st food stop was well received as it was at the top of a really long drag i had to grind up in 34x23,many were saying it was a hard climb and it only carried on in the same vein as we were around Dovedale/Ashbourne.The guys who went for the 100 were saying that is even worse , definitely triple or a really easy gear .(unless your about 9 stone wet through and are called bertie )

Looking at last years results i am guessing i was in the top 20 for the route i did.
