Has anyone else purchased a Meteor 250 Bike light - USB chargeable? In October I went to a nice local bike shop, the same one where I purchased my bike on the C2W scheme. In store they recommended a different light to what I was looking at and it did seem a much better than whatever cheaper option I was looking at..

I rode on a number of occasions in Oct/Nov with the light on at full power (3 different power settings)and it was pretty dark on the road near my work which I realised was due to the lack of lampposts! But my new light would start flashing red for battery power after 20mins so reduced the power down to the middle option for the last 10mins of my journey, which thankfully was residential with lampposts which was reassuring for my last leg of the stretch home. I am just a bit disappointed and found this light slightly unreliable if I wanted to cycle a longer path home, or stay a bit later at the pub than intended ^_^

I just wondered if anyone else had this issue with this bike light? Reviews online of this product look so positive! The box states it would last 'up to 90mins..' well 20mins to me is pretty lame? Are USB charged lights more unreliable than battery powered as the chap in the shop suggested they were better(or that is the impression I got)! Or was I simply expecting too much ???

Maybe you got a dud lot. Or they haven't charged efficiently I use my usb ports on my desktop as they are always on .

I use 2 usb charged lights up front. then 1 usb charged + 2 battery powered on the back. I do find that the rechargeable ones give little indication as to how much longer they are going to last. So i have a rough time stamp in my head as to how long they last and when they need a charge. They do however kick out a much brighter light.

The battery powered ones however last for ages, hundreds of hours. When the batteries start to die they simply dim and you will notice them to be less bright.

I had a look at yours and they do have very good reviews . So maybe it is pure bad luck.

i have a couple of Moon USB ones(well rear only) i used as back ups just incase my main ones Fail as i have the Moon Nexus Rear light and Moon 600 front light. Im always paranoid when out at night cycling so i have about 2 redundant back ups for and another smaller Moon 300 for front just incase.
They seem to last long enough for me as they last about 8 hours on the pulse or strobe setting. and small enough to put in pocket .. bright too

Copied from the above linked page.

With such a small light you wouldn't expect a huge runtime and the 1:50 on full is respectable rather than amazing. It's more than enough for most commutes though and the lower settings will do you just fine for anything less than unlit lanes. There is a useful gauge on the back of the light which gives you a good idea how much juice there is left. I bench-tested the light and got a green light after 35 minutes, a flashing red after 75 and off after 108. Mind you, on the commute home the green seemed to come on quite a bit quicker than that, so temperature might affect this light more than most. - See more at: http://road.cc/content/review/71583-moon-meteor-front-light#sthash.8KUstUBh.dpuf

I struggle to get an hour out of the moon 300 on full power. Picked a smart 700 up last year and that seems to go the distance for ~ 3 hrs.

I tended to charge it up through my laptop at home(which was also plugged in) or my computer at work(ready for the cycle home) and it was plugged in for at least 3hours in each!

The light is incredibly bright and impressive I am just bummed it doesnt last longer - but you cant have everything I guess!

Thanks @MartinQ - I have put this on a wishlist as that light does like a good alternative but will see how desperate I get for a new one!

Must admit I tend to run them together with the moon on strobe / as a backup and use the Smart as the main light. Commuting means I sometimes forget to charge it and having a backup is good.
