Messenger Bag / Pannier

Not quite for the purist, and a bit girly, but has anyone tried one of these?

I'm looking for a messanger bag for day to day use that I can sling on the rack when I'm on my bike. I know that Knog do some nice ones, but they are £70+ where as the one from Bobbin is only half the price....and more in my price range!

I wouldnt call it girlie either - its a fishing bag. See plenty of weirder bags on commuters in London!

I've just bought one! I'll let you know how I get on with it.

First impressions are that it's big enough, the clips look strong and the zip cover that goes over them when you are using it as a bag are easy to use. Strong canvas material, and smaller pockets inside to keep bits separate. Not sure why it's a 'fishing' bag, it more like just a messenger bag with pannier clips, I wouldn't take it fishing - for a start I don't think it'll be amazingly waterproof, but I think the cover from my Altura rack bag will fit over it.

I can't try it out until I've got my new rack on the commuting bike (easier said than done at the moment as the old one seems welded on, one screw totally threaded, but that's another story) - but I'll let you know.

Tis what the description on the website called it - 'Fishing Pannier Bag' It does look a bit like the old satchels fly fisherman wear I guess... well to my eyes anyway.

I assume the Barbour comes with some spray-on Labrador and a Linguaphone tape of Yah noises .

I've a kackered old pannier for now that I can just leave on the bike and chuck my regular back pack into when I need to.

And I'll buy either the Bobbins Bag or the Knog BakSak after my next pay day....

Hi Heather,

I have had a chance to try my one of these now - it's great.

Good points: It's very roomy, more space inside than it looks like. It's easy to transfer between its pannier state and its messenger bag state, and comfortable to carry. Hooks are strong, strap looks strong as well. Looks good on and off the bike which is what I was aiming for!

Bad points: Buckles are a bit stiff (that will improve I guess). One thing that would improve the design would be an outer zip pocket for wallets, keys etc, maybe on the top of the flap.

Did you go for one of these or a Knog one (they looked good as well, a bit sporty for my bike though!)
