What could be more important then the welfare of meece and adding strength to one's argument with the spouse as to the importance of a beer budget?

What exactly is "depression-like behaviour" in a mouse? Did they suddenly take to walking past cats and mousetraps?

I often wonder if white lab coats exist just to make people who are not importaint feel that they are.

'Hello John, you'll be working in this cupboard here, know one will ever know you exist, only three other people will ever care about your work, here's your lab coat.'

They never seem to twig that no one else ever wants to wear one! Cowboys wore jeans, other people liked the idea and bought them. Working boots, suits, the list goes on but have you ever heard anyone say 'I think a white lab coat would look really cool on Saturday night'?

Poor fools. I'd pitty them if they didn't waste so much money!

After reading this thread I nipped out at lunchtime and bought a bottle of red! Feeling much better now and haven't even opened it yet. Not sure how it's going to help depressed mice though. Oh and my lab coat is light blue.

Two Duvels and a Sint Bernardus Prior 8 yesterday evening certainly improved my mood.

However, the experiment yielded insufficient data for statistical validity, so I shall be compelled to repeat it tonight ;)

The mice were tested for depression-like behaviour using a widely recognised method called the Porsolt Swim Test.
Each rodent was placed inside a beaker filled with water and allowed to swim for six minutes.
The amount of time they spend immobile - floating and not swimming - was measured as an index of despair or depression-like behaviour.

What I'm wondering is if the mice can float then why bother swimming anyway? It could be that these mice just cotten on more quickly.
