That's exactly my idea of what a mountain bike should look like - 26" wheels, no suspension, pure, clean-looking frame design made of standard or only very slightly oversized tubing. Aesthetically pleasing as well as functional in other words, which is something most modern MTB's most definitely aren't!
It's silhouette is very similar to my recently acquired 501 framed '91 Raleigh, although the Merlin is smaller. Mine doesn't have Deore bits on it either, have to make do with 200GS...
