I saw a photo on a particular brand of male grooming product in Boots of a rather swish and fashionable gent on a ladies loop frame Dutch bike.

Is it cool for blokes to ride ladies bikes?

No

There is no such thing as a 'ladies' bike. 'Women's specific geometry' perhaps, loop or step through frames, dropped top tubes or mixte.

I ride this:

I have a 1944 Elswick step through which I ride occasionally and a 1970 Batavus step through which is my "new" practical bike at the moment (or will be once I replace the pitiful Union lighting) and also a Raleigh 20 folder. I ride them all and don't give a shoot what others think.

Bear in mind that the majority of the population don't cycle and will consider you an idiot for riding any bike.

I thought such artificial labels stopped being important when you started shaving. Other than "hybrid", of course.

I suppose the step through started for ladies because of wearing a skirt. Does the same apply I wonder with a bloke in a kilt?

Mozzzy

I was on a campsite recently and there was a very tall man, with a kilt, who looked as though he was in his late seventies. He was riding a tricycle - with drop bars!

I was very impressed. I even took a photo of it when he wasn't around.
