I am just getting into the mechanics of bikes. I am trying now to remove the crank arms (and 3 cog chainset - you know at the front). Now..so far I have remove the pin which was a hex (allen key job) but now dont know what tool to use on it or even how to progress to take it off from here. What should i be looking for? to decide what crank tool i need.
It is an old APOLLO Mountain bike.

I suspect you'll need one of THESE, but some pics would probably help.

For an Apollo, I'd have thought it will more likely be a square taper crank requiring a slightly different puller: LINK

To my embarrassment I have tried removing a square taper crank with a tool set up for ISIS/Octalink..... Oh look at the pretty coil that is pulling out.:shy:

Post them on here.

Either use the upload a file button at the bottom right of the reply box, or host them online and copy and paste into your reply.

If you have flickr or face book use them.

Post on facebook and copy the url into the tree icon.
Same goes for flickr
same goes for all image hosting.

To be honest its worth it for posting pics on this forum.. A pic says a 1000 words.

a box comes up, yes.

Step one, find your picture online, then right click on the picture you want to show us and click "copy image url "

Step two, start a post on the forums, click "insert/edit image" which will open a box.

Step three, Right click inside the box and hit paste, which will stick your image url in the box. Click insert and that will add that picture to the post.

Job done

Multiple pictures can be added to one post this way.
