measurement of handlebar stem

i want to change the stem on my summer bike from angled to flat, but keep the same length. how do i measure it so i can order the right thing. also, how do i know what diameter my bars are?

it is an aheadset with 1 1/8 steerer tube.

the lentgh is centre to centre.

What kind of bike is it?
and what kind of bars are they?

Measure from centre of stem to centre of bars, but this will give you the hypotenuse of the triangle, so to keep the same stretch i would drop a short plumb line from the centre of the bar and measure from that to the centre of your head set. If I had my Zeus book here I could be more specific, but I aint, so I can't !

Diameter of bars ? measure them !
