Max road bike Tyre size

Hi All,

what is the max size tyre I'm likely to be able to get on my road bike with caliper brakes fitted.
It is a large Carerra Virtuoso.
I have tried a mates 700 x 35 but these were too big.
Any ideas, i want to go above 25 as i want to use it more off roadish (towpaths, rougher ground etc)

You might be able to squeeze a 28 in there. I wouldn't expect much more
