Hi

I'm in a bit of quandry. I'm about to embark upon a London -> Paris ride. My only real cycling to date has been commuting East to West London every day (16 odd miles) and so have never really felt the need for specialist clothing.

I'm told though that longer rides really beg for proper specialist garms. My issue is I'm just not sure I can bring myself to lycra up. I know its dumb but, well.. I just cant do it.

I've been looking about for some alternatives and it seems Mavic's 09 range features some pretty healthy looking non-lycra buys.

The ones I've been looking at are:

Does anyone have any experience using these shorts?

Am I being daft and will I really suffer without lycra?

Thanks for any help. Its much appreciated.

you can wear what you want!

endura hummvees are a bit cheaper and have a good rep. only problem with baggies ime is they can be a bit hotter and they do get in the way and can snatch on the saddle, lycra all the way for me.

Well I tried the Hummvees and the Mavics both on in the shop.

The Humvees were just too baggy and seemingly littered with zips n pockets compared with the far skinnier more minimal Mavics.

Bought the mavics, rode them to work this morning to try em out. Wow.. now that is a comfy pair of shorts. I could get used to this!
