Having broke a spoke (hey poetry) I dropped the wheel into my LBS about two months ago, left it with them for a while and heard nothing more. Gave them a call after four weeks to be told that they were having trouble getting the right sized spoke and to leave it longer. It is a late seventies/early eighties mavic argent, are they really that hard to find or should I take the wheel elsewhere?

If you are talking about these rims I don't see why it should be so difficult to get suitable spokes. The ERD is a little high for 700c but most 27" rims are even larger. Why don't you ask them why they couldn't get any and what spokes are they looking for that take over 2 months to source?
