i bought a new set of theese wheels on tuesday. there is a small amount of play showing at the rim of front and back wheels. from my research this is set like this at the factory to prevent bearing stress/wear. is anyone else familiar with this setting of the wheel.

By play do you mean it feels wobbly around the hub or do you mean the wheel is not true? If the former, take the spazzy spanner they give you and turn the adjustment on the wheel until there is no play.

If the latter, either get them trued or call up the retailer and tell them the product is not up to code and you want another pair, or them to cover the truing cost at your local bike shop.

the wheel is true just a small bit of play...... lateral play i would call it. i spent hours traweling the net last night to see if the play is factory set, and from what ive read it is. i have seen your link to the document recordacefromnew, and the hubs i have are qrm type so a document that i have read from mavic says they are factory set. i just would be very concerned if theese wheels had gotten into the market place through mavics quality control.

Rob3rt,

i have the plastic spanners you mentioned from a previous par of cosmic elites i had...... a super set of wheels they were too. my new wheels are not adjustable by this method, they use conventional spanners.

the wheel user guide on mavics website says that QRM hubs are factory set and dont need end user adjustment...
