Just got myself a lovely new matte black TCR and just wondered whats the best product to clean it with . Is car shampoo ok for example it will it leave streaks or worse ? Also what product would you recommend for cleaning the drive train without causing any damage to the frame? Cheers.

I use Red Ant products. They have a range specifically for matt frames.

Hi shanty. It's more a case of what not to use, which is anything abrasive or intended to polish a shiny frame, or you'll end up with a permanent patchy finish.

Whatever you do, the golden rule is NEVER rub hard with anything.

I have a matt Canyon Aeroad which cost enough that I tend to be a bit precious about it. Even so, I just use Wilko's own brand bike cleaner or some muc-off if its on offer. Failing that a weak solution of car shampoo or washing up liquid works just fine. What ever you use, you should rinse off with fresh water straight after to minimise streaking.

To get an even finish, I sometimes use Morgans Matt Carbon cleaner. It's not essential, but it removes any residual streaking and makes it all look tidy.

You can put a sheen on a Matt finish if your not careful. I clean mine with soap and water if it is really dirty but most of the time I tend to give the frame a wipe over with Mr Muscle or similar glass cleaner, it works great.

I have a matte black Bianchi and you do have to be careful not to scratch the surface. (I suspect this is true of all plastic bikes.) I used to use baby wipes, but find it is better to float the muck off with a big sponge loaded with water. I still use baby wipes to do the fine cleaning, but they can pick up grit, so take care.

Glass cleaner, really?

When you say "soapy" water what you using? Washing up liquid, car shampoo...?
A little bit of washing up liquid and one of those thin sponge cloths.
Re. The glass cleaner, I spray a little on to a micro fibre cloth and wipe the frame, the remaining glass cleaner then evaporates in seconds. I know it sounds odd but it works great.

Meths would also do a similar gentle degreasing job.
Mr Muscle glass cleaner is really good on glass too. LOL
