matching xp dvd to machine

I have had a quite a few machine for family etc and have about 5 xp dvd.
i want to format and reinstall xp on a laptop i dont know which xp disc is for that machine.
is there anyway of telling quickly, i can then mark the dvds with the machine name.
obviously it matters which one i use as when it comes to varifying online

Most XP CD's are the same...

Just use whichever one is the latest one (ideally with at least Service Pack 2), and make sure you enter the proper code for that machine. (it should be on a sticker on the machine if you bought OEM copies)

Caveat: If you have 'restore' cd's specific to the manufacturer of the base unit, you will obviously have to match them to the machine concerned.
