Officers in Sheffield have launched an investigation following a reported robbery of two mountain bikes.

On 29 September at 6.10pm, it is understood that three masked males approached two teenagers while in Grenoside Woods and stole their bikes.

One bike is described as a gun metal coloured specialised Rockhopper. The second bike is described as a blue Trek bike.

Officers are now appealing for people to keep their eye out and report any sightings of the bikes to us via our new online live chat, our online portal or by calling 101. Please quote incident number 833 of 29 September 2023 when you get in touch.

You can access our online portal here: www.southyorks.police.uk/contact-us/report-something/.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to give your personal details, you can stay anonymous and pass on what you know by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers. Call their UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111 or complete a simple and secure anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

I Hope this is not going to be one of them type of crimes that spreads to the 'feckless of society', that the cops cannot get on top of, like knife crime has become.

I am pleased they have launched an investigation, but surprised based on what we hear about shortage of manpower and being stretched.

This scenario plays our quite frequently on the Bristol to Bath path. The culprits are normally on electric bikes (often illegal high speed models) and anyone travelling alone can be targeted. Avon & Somerset police are aware but have yet to make any inroads in preventing it or catching the culprits.

It's like the modern day Dick Turpin crimes.

These days most people have a mob phone, but I never saw anyone in view phoning cops for example. Under the circumstances of the situation I can understand the risk. Obviously someone filmed it.

Speaking of Bristol, have you seen this one? Threatening onlookers with a hammer:

It's interesting the way he gives the other guy the hammer and tells him to get on with it.

Yes, that was shown on our local TV news. Isn't it sad that no-one feels like they should say/do something these days?
