Hi

I am test-riding a Marin Bobcat Trail tomorrow. Anyone got any thoughts on this bike? I'm looking to replace my GT Avalanche 3.0 Hydro and the specs are very similar but the Marin RRPs at 600 instead of the GT's 460 - the shop says the frame is the difference, any experience of both or either bikes?

Cheers

That's what i was told 3 years ago when I was considering a Bobcat Trail. It's a nice bike slightly let down by the fork at that price. That said, the frame will always take a better fork (eg. Recon) at a later date should you wish. In the end I plumped for a Boardman Comp (at £750ish) but that was because of the Ride2Work saving. If you really prefer the Marin, and it is a comfortable fit, I'd go for it over the GT.

TBH I really like the GT, it feels easy to chuck around, I'm only getting the new bike coz our child seat doesn't fit the GT. Have ordered the Marin anyway ;-)

If anyone wants to buy my GT, you can come to Warrington and pick it up for £300!

Oh I have a question if any techies can help. The Marin has 8 speed cassette and shifters, and an Alivio rear mech and Altus front.. I have asked the shop to upgrade just the front and rear mechs to Deore, and leave the cassette, chain and shifters as-is. Will this work fine?
