I have set aside £1K and several "take my fancy". I wanted -lightweight (just coz I did), decent spec' and something that looked nice!
Went to one of my LBSs who told me I do not need to spend anywhere near that for the type of cycling I intend......Penine trail/Delamere Forrest/possibly Llandegla (if I get the courage)........he recommends the Marin Bobcat.

I am having a test ride but-never having had a MTB I can't really compare it........so wondering what others think.

- The spec is lower than I planned....he says it will do everything I want and more.
- It is slightly heavier than e.g. Trek 6500.......he says that is down to wheels/chain set etc but the frame is as good as any (better than most).
- It's a very nice looking bike.
- At £650 it will save me a nice wedge but I dont want (6 months down the line) to be thinking I wish I had gone for x,y,z.
