Was this in Procycling a bit ago? There's another interview with him this month where they ride Etna in anticipation of the Giro stage which is worth a look. He seems like a genuine guy.
One thing he says is that the teams sort of start to brainwash young riders into doping. First it's vitamins and then something else and get you used to 'preparation'. Then they send you for 'advice on preparation'. Apparently at this point he spoke to his father who said, let's ask a proper doctor what he says. So they went to the family doctor who advised against. I think his career probably demonstrates that he took the advice, but I'm a natural cynic, especially when it comes to doping.
My only question is - what was he up to riding for Saunier Duval? He seems, like Mottet before him, to be one of those guys who may have been treated like a maverick for not doping but at least he didn't spit in the soup. So I hope that this was the case. Sorry if I've hijacked the thread a bit there with yet more doping allegations. I long for the day when other sports fans discuss their competitors problems so openly.
