Hi,

I've just done fitting M+s on my new Kona Honky Tonk and noticed that they look as wide if not wider than the original tyres they've replaced (700x28 Conti Ultra Sports). I ordered the M+s in 700x25 with a view to adding Roadracers down the line. Has anyone else used them with these tyres in this size?

Tyres were a bugger to fit BTW - shredded a tube in the process (along with my thumbs  )

Thanks.

Despite the best efforts (a couple of hours) of mine and my LBS, I couldn't get the Roadracers to fit with 25mm tyres and had to take them off again.

Thanks Norm,

was the issue with clearance or the curvature of the guard itself? I've got loads of space under the brake calipers (long drop) and between rear tyre and seat tube, but have read on one of the other threads that the shape simply might not right for 25mm +

You'd think with all the interest in these Crud would have knocked up a larger size by now!

It really does depend on the brand of tyre.

I have bought 23's that come up with a tall profile like a 25mm tyre and 25's that have a wider body and a lower profile like a 23.

Try it and see.

I spent ages trying to get mine to fit with the standard 25mm tyres that came with the secteur, it just about worked but still had some rubbing and the clearences were minute.

Is this your bike?

Becaus it looks like it could take full guards, much better if it can, probably SKS narrow road.

yep - I already own a set of Chromoplastics for the hybrid (700x32 - too wide to transplant across) but was keen to try out the Roadracers... saw a customers Honky Tonk parked up in Evans when I was selecting my bike which was kitted out with them and it looked the biz - it helped cement my decision in buying the bike (not the only factor!). Wish I took a better look at those tyres although I swear they were standard 28s...

Looks like a suck it and see situation

I had a job getting fixed mudguards to fit Marathons on my hybrid. The mudguards were supposed to take up to 32 but the Marathons are 28

The tread and thick rubber make a fatter tyre.

I went for the wide variety as my 32s were on the cusp of the range of the narrow version - the only problems I had were with the clearances on the bike itself.

I use Crud MkII with 700x25 Conti Gatorskins and they just about fit but there is a fair amount of rubbing which I just put up with. The Gators (in my opinion) do come up small for 25's though - i reckon they are smaller than the standard 700x25 tyres that my bike originally came with Specialized All Condition. As others have said the only way you will find out is by trying. You're just in time for summer trying all this out! I took my Cruds off 4 weeks ago and the weather had been amazing ever since!
