I thought that he would drop of the pace towards the latter end of the race. But fair play to him, he wanted that first place, come what may.

Being able to do that at 49 is obscene!

As Graham Jones said in commentry, one of Britain's best ever roadmen who seriously under achieved. He had the talent to be a big star on the continent.

Anyone else read the interview with him in Procycling a couple of months ago?

He said ANC-Halfords was shambolic, then went to Fagor, which was even worse! I got the impression he loved his time in the US though. Even so, he really could have been a big star in Europe if he'd had the right luck. I guess the timing was unfortunate - look at how much easier it is for English speaking riders now.

Anyway, chapeau! to him.
