making bar tape more comfortable

guys I have fitted brooks leather bar tape but find it quite hard to touch.I read somewhere probably on this form to fit hockey stick tape then wrap the leather bar tape over the top of the hockey stick tape.Is this the stuff to go for or could someone put me in the direction what to purchase to make my bar tape more comfortable
any help appreciated

Specialized bar phat is all you need

Leather bar tape is indeed quite hard compared with more modern tape materials.
I use BikeRibbon gel pads under mine.

next time i redo my bar tape, i'm gonna add some strips of old inner tube under the flats just to make them a bit more softer and comfier
