I've spent several hours over the last week getting my bike sorted to ride around here at uni; fitting new tyres, tweaking the brakes, finally getting the sodding gears to change properly and cleaning and lubing the whole thing up for winter, I was exceptionally annoyed to realise after a lecture this morning that my rear brake rotor has bent!

I can hear it rub every revolution, so it's off to the shops for a new one

Anyone else have one of those times that makes it feel all your effort was wasted?

When I first fitted mudguards it took me ages to get them set up OK.

The next morning, a small rub made itself known.

I made the mistake of thinking a few miles with a minor rub would be OK and I'd adjust them when I got to work.

Tyre written off.

I was an idiot last Wednesday...

I was riding out to meet up with a group of friends and felt that my tyres were a little low.

So, I stopped at the local petrol station to fill them up with their air hose. Forgetting that I had a pump in the bottom of my backpack. I over-inflated the tyre... And I didn't check the pressure when I inflated them (I have a seat bag with a tyre gauge in - I was in a hurry and neglected to check the pressure).

Result is that I was very lucky that last night I checked the tyre when I did - it could easily have gone 'bang' on me... Front tyre, too. Not good.

So, I need to buy a new tube and tyre for the MTB. Terrific!

If it's only minor, you can fix a bent disc brake rotor by gripping and bending it back with an adjustable spanner. Spin it to find the buckle, then very very very gently bend the correct part back, hold it there for a few seconds and release. Spin again to check, repeat. Takes a gentle touch and a lot of patience.
