I'm pleased I completed my first 50 miler yesterday as the weather is awful today and for the rest of the week.

I cycled from Holy Island (Wales), across Anglesey and onto the mainland crossing the bridges across the Menai Straits and back. 50.79 miles

To be honest I should have put in some 40 mile runs first, the step from 30 miles to 50 miles showed at the 35 to 40 mile mark.

But I made it, the new Secteur performed brilliantly and there were just a few twinges felt in the knees this morning.

Congrats on your first 50, I know what you mean about the jump from 30 to 50 I did the same. But it's great to finish that first 50, what was you time by the way.

Barnet,
A big well done. Part of the step up is remembering to eat and drink as you go. The calories need replacing.

congrats on your maiden 50, now it's time to start planning your maiden 100.

And congrats on the bike, I have the same bike as my commuter.

Well done, I've just done my first 50 Sunday so I know what it's like, I ran out of steam at the end.

There's some very nice roads on the island which I am looking forward to trying as I start pushing further than 50 miles which would just about get me over the bridge and back from Colwyn Bay

Thanks for the supportive replies. I do think this is good advice "eat and drink as you go" Fluids were ok but didn't plan the eating bit very well.

Need a bigger bag on the bike to hold more food instead of just the one cafe stop to eat.

Many thanks
