I have a Trek Madone 5.2 2006 which has the upgraded Dura-ace group set on it in place of the standard Ultegra fitment.
I was thinking of upgrading to a newer version of the same model as I like the look of the newer bike (especially the internal cabling) and the new frame is better.
I have spotted a Madone 5.2 2010 locally at a good price. This obviously comes with standard Ultergra groupset.
Both bikes are have double chain rings and are 10 speed cassettes.
I would like to retain my Dura-ace groupset as it is in very good condition.
So my plan was to swap the groupsets between the 2 frames, so the 2010 will have the Dura-ace on it and the 2006 will have the Ultegra on it. I will then sell the 2006 bike.
Are there any potential issue that I should be aware of?
Is it worth changing / possible to change over the bottom brackets too? I think the 2010 model has a different style of BB compared to the 2006 model but I'm not sure.
When changing over the brifters, I will obviously have to remove the bar tape. Can this be reused and put back on again?
