Found this some time ago and gave it a clean up yesterday. No frame number just stamped with name under bb. Wasnt able to find any more info on internet.
I remember these Revell bikes were from the early eighties, maybe a little earlier. Production didn't run for very long so quite rare. Don't know where the frames came from, maybe someone else can provide that info, but were quality bikes. Maybe DR Nadler was the guy who made the frame?Distributed by Madison Cycles who were and still are a major supplier to the cycle industry.
Nice find. Yours is in nice original condition. Looks to have been made up as a tourer with triple and braze on plus attachments for carrier and guards. Geometry is relaxed in keeping.
I've only ever seen one in the flesh and it was nicely made, with attractive lugwork and a 531 sticker on it. I'm sure that someone has looked into these before on here and came to the conclusion that Revell bought in the frames rather than built them in-house.
Mercian and Nigel Dean both built the Revell branded frames. I remember them well in the old Freewheel catalogue, and along with the Ron Kitching catalogue they were essential reference tomes pre www.
There are plenty of Revell Romany bikes on e bay but I would like to know what this bike is?Have not seen another one like it.
Reynolds 531st frame , Campagnolo brakes ,Red S crank, Mavic wheels.
You must have a better class of rubbish skip round your way, because I generally only find recent BSO's and low end 90's MTB's abandoned in the local ones. I'd consider it Christmas come early if I found a decent 531 framed bike in a bin! I can wish for it, but it hasn't happened yet.
I think I found a reference to Revell bikes in a vintage cycle magazine . I think they mentioned a shop in London . I will try to find it when I get back off holiday .
I found what I was looking for in an old Veteran -Cycle Club magazine April/May 2008. There was an article featuring 2 unknown frames and a Revell.
The Revell had Revell of London transfers and were possibly mass produced frames. It is believed that they came from somewhere near Staples Corner but ceased trading some time in the 50's.
