WTF are Apple playing at? I have an iPad that I use infrequently, I switched it on yesterday and was asked to punch in my pass code - I have never had a pass code so I didn't know what to do so I went web searching for an answer. All the solutions I found, including those on Apples support site require access to the iPad before you can change things which of course I can't do because my iPad is locked. The answer is out there somewhere but as far as I can tell you need a tin foil hat and a PC to access it.

Speak to the person that might have set the passcode?

Sorry to sound facetious but that's the only way you would have a passcode set (unless it's managed by some MDM solution for work).

I believe it's a feature of iOS7 that requires you to input a pass code. I never had to before I updated my iPad.

At some point you'll have created one so maybe try giving Apple a call with your other details to see if they can hook you up with it?

Providing you have backed it up to iTunes at some juncture you should be able to restore it thusly

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
  2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
  3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
  4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
  5. iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
