I’ve just received a ‘LUMOTEC IQ Cyo Front Light -N Plus’ light. It comes with two sets of wires, one for the Hub dynamo and the other for a rear light. Can the rear light wires be cut and discarded as I’ll be using a rear LED. Thanks

John

yep it can

Thank you. Can't wait to try it out tonight, even though I'm full of a cold. I've just replaced my 4 year old Lumotec Halogen which has given me great service.

Let us know it performs John. I'm looking at one of those as a replacement for my Oval Plus. Other options are the IQ Fly or the Edelux, but the Cyo seems to have the advantages of being more affordable (and available in the case of the Edelux!)

Well I had a ride with the new light, on some unlit roads, and I have to say I’m most impressed. It is truly amazing how LED lights have moved on. I had the beam set to around 25/30 feet in front of me and I could see everything clearly in my path. It seemed much brighter than the halogen I was using before. I will be using this light on my daily commute so will see how it performs over the next coming months.

Well I'm impressed - I was 'upgrading' from the IQ fly which got transferred onto the other half's commuter. Moving from 40-60lux with the same reflector & LED is a subtle improvement but probably not really worth it, however I had a good excuse
If you were upgrading from halogen or the first gen of LED's (Dlumotec which I had used previously), the difference will be pretty staggering and you'll no longer feel as if you need a second lamp if you were to head out for night rides on a pitch black cloudy evening.

it probably is - the colour light from the LEDs is a much higher temperature than the halogen that suits the human eye very well i.e. the colour of lihgt is less yellow than the halogen.

Yes, I can feel my hand starting to reach for the credit card.

My current light (a Lumotec Oval Plus) is not enough for the unlit rural roads around here and I'm having to use 2 small smart leds and/or a Fenix L2D as well. The latter really is excellent but my bodged mount for it is not the best.

I couldn't resist and got one last week.

It is quite literally brilliant! I've just been out for a half hour ride on the unlit roads around here and I'm majorly impressed. I'm amazed you can get so much light out of little dynamo powered thing. There's good light both ahead and to the sides (good for seeing the ditches and hedges!). Recommended.

Very pleased to hear the commendations for this as I have also got one on its way after reading about YACF's excellent tests. I did think about the edelux but it didn't seem worth the extra cost and I too think the Cyo beam pattern is more useful.

I already have the SON dynamo but the bike won't be ready til sometime next month:sad:
