I have abandoned my idea to get a tourer as I'm only likely ever to do one night away tours. I need some ability to carry a small amount of gear, don't want to use a rucksack so presumably I need a rack and either a large saddle type bag or panniers.

My bike doesn't have those holes for fitting a rack so can anyone advise what my options are regarding an alternative type of rack and options re cheap panniers/ bag.

If anyone is looking to sell a rack/bag I would be very interested.

Thanks.

you could a seatpost mounted rack - as long as the post is alloy of course. they can carry upto 25kgs normally and then get a bar mounted small bag too

just two options to consider

I own a Topeak beam rack with the mudguard (extra) and the side supports (extra) and use one of 4 different size Topeak bags on it but I'm wary of clamping it onto an ally seat post, luckily on the bikes I use it on it will wriggle between the rear stays and clamp to the frame downtube.
I only own the Topeak system as another 2 of my bikes have their Super Tourist racks permanently fitted which accept the same bags as well as my BIG Carradice pannier pair.
These beam racks exert a fair bit of force so with a carbon fibre frame I'd be tempted to use an expanding wedge bag and a bar bag to spread load more evenly around the frame and also centralise it better. Mind you I also use a Topeak Bikamper tent which I love but gets slated by some members on here so what do I know. PS Topeak quality is excellent

This Thule rack option might be suitable. It works for bikes without mounting eyelets.

10kg max for a Topeak seatpost rack.might even be 9kg. Not much once you factor in the weight of the bag

I got one for the Genesis, then decided against as too little capacity

Thanks guys for all the suggestions, after doing some research I found that the Carradice factory was only 6 miles from my house, (which I never knew, down a back street) so I nipped round there and bought a Carradry bag, which was a return but also very cheap. Should be good enough for my needs.

Are your saddle rails crabon?

If not, a set of bag loops (I bought ViVa ones, from Velo Orange for my non-Brooks equipped bike), and a Carradice would be an option. (Get the Camper Longflap, and you've getting on for 23l capacity, in a bag that will probably outlast the bike...)
