T'was a nice day today so went out for a ride.
Things were going great until about 4 miles from home.
I was riding down the footpath as the road (A46) is very busy. I went up a low curb and as I did I heard something fall off the bike and land in the ditch with a splash.
I initially thought that it was either my pump or water bottle. But checking the bike all were present. I looked in the ditch and could see some bubbles of air coming to the surface, so it was evident that something was in there.
I was just starting to think that maybe it was something that I had ran over and the bike had thrown it into the ditch, when I noticed that my multi-tool wasn't attached to the seatpost anymore. shoot! That's £40 worth. I was thinking of taking off my socks and shoes and having a paddle, but I could just reach in from the bank. I few minutes of routing around I had found it. Boy that was lucky I thought.
I have it attached to the seatpost under the saddle bag strap. I thought that it was OK as for several rides it has never moved. But obviously it isn't. Any ideas were/how I can attach it the the bike better. It is a toppeak alien 3 in the standard carrying pouch.

Zipties. Keep the pouch on the bike. Slide the tool out of the casing when you need it?
Or get a seat post bag to keep the tool in, alongside puncture repair kit / bonk rations, etc.

As arallsopp says a seat post bag, just remember to fasten it shut. I forgot to once xx( got 6 miles down the road and onto the Forth Road bridge when I heard the thud, luckily the tool (that's the multi tool not me ) landed on the deck, however when I picked up I noticed one of the tyre levers was missing, there was no way I was going to go paddling for it, the water is circa 50m below. All I can say is thank goodness it wasn't my house keys they were in the bag too.

ive a rubber watch strap that came with a mini pump i dont use the pump that much but the straps great for tying on my jkt to seatpost ive even used it to tie on my camera in its pouch ,
dont know what you would call one or were to buy one perhaps others do ?
but would secure multi tool in its case no problem ive been down forest trails never lost my cam or jkt its very secure with a stretch in it so you can slightly overtighten it ,
looks a bit like the top pic here but its not a dedicated watch strap .
