last night on the club rude i looked a lot higher up than other rideers, which i realised was because i had all the spacers in place under my handle bar stem.

the bike is a giant scr2 2007. i have removed the stem and taken out 1 big and 1 little spacer.

my question is are you meant to put the spacers back on top of the stem and then put the cap and screw through or are you meant to leave them off??

im asking cus when i put them bck on the top they look a bit odd and was just wondering if you are just meant to leave them off.

thanks in advance!!

Yes - put the spacers back on top. Try it this way for a bit.

If you are certain that you're happy with the bars at that height, and that you'll never want them any higher, you can saw off the protruding stem and do away with the spacers on top, for a tidier look.

Yes put the spacers back on top and tighten the top bolt (to pre-load the bearings) before you tighten up the stem.

BTW, the SCR has a very long headtube, even if you removed all the spacers (including that silly cone shaped thing) your bars would still be higher than some bikes.

It may also be because pure race bikes generally have longer top tubes than SCRs. Compare your saddle height vs handlebar height to other clubmates bikes, then compare their reach. A longer reach will give you a flatter back with no change in height, so you might want to try a longer stem. Best of all, get a qualified coach to look at your position and help you.
